Last week was Downtown Dining Week for restaurants in the downtown Memphis area. There were over 20 restaurants participating this year with lunch and full course meals for a discounted rate. This is one event I try to never miss out on! The concept is pretty neat. For $20.17 (I think the price increase by a penny to match the current year) you can get a three course dinner on a special selected menu. During lunch, it’s $10.17 for a two-for-one special with a special lunch menu.
The first restaurant I visited was Aldo’s Pizza Pies. I invited a few friends that live downtown to enjoy the experience with me. I had the house salad, Sun-dried tomato ravioli with roasted red pepper cream sauce, and cheese cake. I had to take the cheese cake home. I must admit, my eyes are always bigger than my stomach!
Day two was a visit to Bleu. I decided to try the Spinach Salad, ginger lime pan seared salmon and sweet potato cheesecake. Bleu also had drink specials, so I decided to try the Tanqueray Gin Ghyme Will Tell. For those that decided to drive, of course I walked because Bleu is only three blocks away, the restaurant offered complimentary valet parking for three hours.
Because I had to go out of town on Thursday, I wasn’t able to participate in Downtown Dining week every day as planned. For next year, I will be careful to not plan my vacation around one of most exciting weeks for downtown restaurants and food.
I’m sure my trainer was happy I could only participate in only two days instead of the entire week as planned.
